History

Casa Cantone is a rural hamlet with Medieval origins. Originally, it was characterised by the fact that it was completely self-sufficient, with its Church, still consecrated today, the bakery and the various rural annexes. In this way the structure formed an important point of reference for the surrounding area. The Country House is located in a quiet, unspoilt area, about 1.5 km from Bevagna, an ancient country town in the province of Perugia. Bevagna, formerly known as "Mevania", was the capital city for the Umbrians in 308 B.C., but it is even more important to remember it as the birthplace of Propertius. Today, Bevagna is one of the centres in Umbria which has managed best to conserve its medieval appearance, in both an architectural and folkloristic way. The "Market of the Gaite", an event which recalls medieval life, is not to be missed. It takes place in Bevagna every year in the month of June, and is counted among the most important historical events in Umbria.
